Hiking
No hiking trails exist in the
region, but the adventuresome hiker can find rewarding and spectacular
hikes to places where few or no other people have ever ventured.
The open tundra in the northern
regions offers easy access to the Wood River and Ahklun Mountains.
Rising 5000 feet above sea level, these dramatic peaks present the
similar jagged profile of the Alps.
In the southern region, the lower
elevations are dominated by alder trees, which make an extensive
backpacking trip difficult. However, a float trip combined with day
hikes up the mountains and ridges is a perfect combination!
